Does texting effect writing?

1.       Texting has been changing teens and young adult life.

a.       We can text anywhere during the day. Walking to class, eating, going to the bathroom, or hanging out at home.

b.       It has become a concern to doctors, teachers and parents.

c.       It allows people to communicate within seconds of each other instead of talking on the phone or sending letters.

2.       The concerns rising about text speak have been rising.

a.       Texting is destroying kids writing style, according to a USA Today article.

b.       A Minnesota teacher of the 7th and 9th grade said that she must explicitly remind her students to not use text slang in writings they do.


3.       Other people insist that texting can be viewed as beneficial because it provides students with motivation to write.

a.       Teens enjoy texting so and they frequently write through texts and will be more motivated to write normally.

b.       Teens are engaging in written communication rather than oral speech and learn how to convey their message in as few words as possible.

c.       It helps people to “sharpen their diplomatic skills because it allows more time to formulate their thoughts and express oneself concisely” (168).
